One of the biggest fears people have about rehab is not knowing what it will actually be like. Will it be clinical? Strict? Full of strangers?
At Holistic Recovery Bali, the answer is none of those. Every day has a clear shape, but it's never fixed. We work with one client at a time, so the plan moves with your needs, your energy and whatever the day brings up. Here's what a typical day might look like once you've settled in.

A typical day
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 7:00 | Wake naturally. Tea or coffee, a quiet moment outside. |
| 7:30 | Morning movement: a gym session, gentle yoga, a walk, or a short mindfulness practice. |
| 8:30 | Breakfast from our on-site chef. |
| 9:30 | One-to-one therapy: CBT, DBT, trauma-informed counselling or relapse prevention, depending on your plan. |
| 11:30 | Free time: rest, read, swim or journal. |
| 12:30 | Lunch. |
| 14:00 | Afternoon session: 9D Breathwork, a second therapy session, or psychoeducation about addiction and mental health. |
| 15:30 | Out and about: a walk in nature, a swim, a community group, a volunteering visit, or a Melukat water blessing (optional). |
| 18:00 | Dinner. |
| 19:00 | Evening reflection with a support worker, an outside recovery meeting (in person or online), or time to yourself. |
| 21:30 | Wind down. Rest is part of recovery. |
Treat this as a sketch, not a timetable. In the first days, especially during detox, the focus is on rest, safety and feeling physically steady.
Structure that changes with you
Structure matters in early recovery. Knowing roughly what the day holds is calming, and it gives you something steady to lean on while everything else is shifting.
But people don't heal on a fixed schedule, and we don't pretend they do. Some mornings you'll wake up ready to dig into something hard in therapy. Other days you'll need a long walk, an extra session, or simply a quieter day. A difficult phone call from home, a craving, a breakthrough, a bad night's sleep: whatever comes up, we change the plan around it.
That's one of the biggest differences between HRB and a traditional rehab. Most centres run one timetable for everyone in the building. Because you're our only client, your day is reshaped as often as it needs to be, sometimes hour by hour.
Exercise and the gym
Movement is part of every day. Clients train at a top-tier local gym with a sauna, steam room and ice baths, and we mix that with swimming, yoga and walking depending on what suits you. Regular exercise helps with sleep, mood, cravings and the restlessness that often comes with early recovery, and it's one of the easiest habits to keep going once you're home. We build it around your fitness and health, so you don't need to be sporty to start.
You're not cut off from the world
Your therapy is always one-to-one. But recovery doesn't happen in a bubble, and we don't want your time here to feel isolated.
So, when you're ready and if it helps, we take you out to connect with other people: fellowship meetings, local community groups, women's groups and men's support circles, and time spent giving back to local people in Bali. Many clients say these are some of the moments they remember most. They're a reminder that you're part of something bigger, and good practice for life back home.
What makes it different
- One client at a time. Or one couple. Your therapy sessions, meals and space are yours alone. No dormitories and no sharing rooms with strangers.
- Structure without rigidity. There's enough routine to feel safe and grounded, with room to rest when you need it.
- People around you who get it. Our counsellors and support workers are with you through the day, including our manager Bimbim, who counsels in English and Indonesian, and counsellor David Elsey. Many of the team have lived experience of recovery.
- Mind, body and life. Therapy in the morning, breathwork and movement in the afternoon, and time to process in between.
- Proper food. Meals cooked by our on-site chef, with any dietary needs sorted before you arrive.
- Connected, not isolated. One-to-one care, plus outside groups, community time and volunteering when you're ready.
Our modalities of healing
- CBT and DBT: practical skills for thoughts, emotions and cravings.
- Trauma-informed counselling: working gently with what sits underneath.
- 9D Breathwork: releasing tension and resetting the nervous system.
- Mindfulness, yoga and movement: building calm and energy.
- Nutrition: meals planned to help your body recover.
- Family support: sessions with loved ones where they help.
- Balinese culture: optional temple visits, nature and water blessings, offered as reflection, never religion.
- Aftercare: preparing for home from your first week.
Weekends and outings
Weekends slow down, and you choose what they look like. Bali has a lot to offer, and we'll plan whatever feels right for you: a trip up into the jungle, a quiet weekend by the beach, temples, art galleries, a cooking class, or simply staying in and resting. Some clients want adventure, others want stillness, and that can change from one weekend to the next.
Weekend plans are shaped around how you're doing and never push past your medical needs, so early on, or during detox, they'll be gentler. A member of our team always comes with you.
Staying connected
We'll agree together how and when you stay in touch with family and work. For many people, a few days of quiet at the start helps them settle; after that, regular calls are encouraged.
