Maybe you've tried cutting back on your own. Maybe you've had a few weeks off and it crept back. Maybe someone you love has finally said what they've been worried about for a long time.
However you got here, you don't need to have it all worked out. You just need somewhere safe to start.
Holistic Recovery Bali is a private alcohol rehab in Bali. We work with one client at a time, so your programme is built entirely around you: your history, your health, your family and what you want your life to look like when you go home. No group dormitories, no waiting your turn, and no one-size-fits-all timetable.
Understanding alcohol addiction
Alcohol use disorder is the medical name for losing the ability to stop or control your drinking, even when it's hurting your health, your work or the people around you. It ranges from mild to severe. You might know it by other names: alcohol dependence, alcohol addiction, alcoholism.
It has nothing to do with being weak. When someone drinks heavily for months or years, the brain adapts. It quietens its own calming chemistry and turns up its stress signals to balance out the alcohol. Over time, alcohol stops being something you add to your day and becomes something your body expects. Take it away and everything swings the other way: anxiety, shaking, sweating, sleepless nights.
For many of the people we work with, drinking started as relief from stress, grief, loneliness or a mind that wouldn't switch off. Somewhere along the way, the relief became the problem.
It's also more common, and more serious, than most people realise. The World Health Organization estimates alcohol causes around 2.6 million deaths a year worldwide, almost 1 in 20 of all deaths. In Australia, 1,765 people died from alcohol-induced causes in 2024.
You don't need to decide which label fits you. On your first call we'll ask about your drinking, your health, any past withdrawals and what's happening in your life, and give you an honest view of the safest next step. Alcohol addiction is treatable, and people recover from it every day, including people who've tried many times before.

Signs it might be time for alcohol rehab
There's no single moment that tells you it's time. For most people it's a pattern that's been building for a while. You might recognise some of these:
-
You drink more, or for longer, than you meant to
-
You've tried to cut down or stop, and it hasn't lasted
-
You feel anxious, shaky or unwell when you haven't had a drink
-
Drinking is affecting your work, your relationships or your health
-
You're hiding how much you drink, or feel ashamed about it
-
The people closest to you have told you they're worried
If any of this sounds familiar, it doesn't mean you've failed. It means your body and mind need proper support, and that's exactly what we're here for.
Important: stopping alcohol suddenly after heavy, long-term drinking can be dangerous. Please talk to us or a doctor before you stop on your own.
What happens when you stop drinking
If your body has come to depend on alcohol, stopping suddenly brings on withdrawal. How it goes depends on how much and how long you've been drinking, your health, and whether you've been through it before. That's why it should always be assessed one person at a time.
-
6 to 12 hours after the last drink: shakiness, sweating, nausea, headaches, anxiety and trouble sleeping.
-
12 to 48 hours: symptoms can peak. Some people see or hear things that aren't there, and the risk of a withdrawal seizure is highest in this window.
-
48 to 96 hours: a small number of people develop delirium tremens (the DTs): severe confusion, agitation, fever and hallucinations. This is a medical emergency.
-
After about a week: for most people the physical symptoms settle. Sleep, mood and cravings can take longer.
How we keep you safe
-
Before you arrive. We talk through your drinking, your health and any past withdrawals, so your detox is planned around you, not guessed at.
-
24/7 trained medical care. Someone qualified is with you around the clock through the first days, checking on you and responding straight away if anything changes.
-
Medication where it's needed. Withdrawal medication, prescribed and monitored with input from our team psychiatrist, to ease symptoms and lower the risk of complications.
-
People who understand addiction. Many of our team have been through recovery themselves. They know what those first nights feel like, and they won't leave you alone with it.
Detox makes stopping safe, but on its own it doesn't treat addiction. That's what the rest of your time with us is for.
Need urgent help? If you or someone you're with is having a seizure, is very confused, is hallucinating, is struggling to breathe or has chest pain, call emergency services or go to the nearest hospital now. In Australia call 000. In Indonesia call 112. Please don't wait for a reply from us.

How we treat alcohol addiction
Alcohol dependency is rarely just about alcohol. For most people there's something underneath it: stress, anxiety, grief, trauma, burnout or years of carrying too much on your own. We treat the drinking and what's driving it, together.
Detox and stabilisation
Your first days focus on safe withdrawal and getting you physically steady, with round-the-clock care (see What happens when you stop drinking, above).
One-to-one therapy
Because you're our only client, your therapy is personal and private. Our qualified counsellors use proven approaches, including:
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): understanding the thoughts and patterns that keep drinking going, and changing them
-
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): practical skills for handling strong emotions and cravings without reaching for a drink
-
Trauma-informed counselling: gently working with what sits underneath, at your pace
-
Relapse prevention: a clear plan for your own triggers, not generic advice
9D Breathwork and the body
Addiction lives in the body as well as the mind. Alongside talking therapy, we use 9D Breathwork, mindfulness, movement and good sleep to help your nervous system settle. Our on-site chef prepares nourishing meals to help your body recover from the effects of alcohol.
Family support
Addiction affects the whole family. Where it helps, we involve the people closest to you, so home is ready to support your recovery when you return.

Your alcohol rehab programme
Every programme is tailored, but each one follows the same path: detox and stabilisation, then deep therapeutic work, then preparing for life at home.
Programme lengths: 28, 60 or 90 days
Investment: IDR 346,000,000 for the 28-day Tailored Retreat. Ask us about pricing for 60 and 90 days.
How long you stay depends on your history and what's going on underneath the drinking. Twenty-eight days is a strong foundation. Sixty or ninety days gives more time to build new habits and work through deeper issues, which often makes recovery last. We'll help you decide what's right during your first call.
Using your super to pay for rehab
If you're Australian, you may be able to access your superannuation early to pay for treatment. We can guide you through the application from your first call to your first day. Find out how using your super for rehab works.
